Wake up to an original breakfast every Tuesday at KERB King's Cross.
We first got the measure of what these lads were about at Louder Lounge. Everything went wrong for them but they remained buoyant. That's what it's all about - being like that - and still coming up with some incredible food. Their 'MabMuffin' is everything McDonalds promises in the adverts - all pumped up pucks of sausage patty and fried egg in a beautifully bouncy muffin; glossy cheese cascading down the sides. And they've got more to give - making breakfasts alluring and all-out. Worth getting out of bed for.
We will always have a special or two up our sleeve, but these are the cornerstones that are closest to our hearts.
Our own homemade Blythburgh sausage patty, free-range egg, American cheese, English muffin and secret full English sauce. Triumphant!
Classic NY egg dish done on-the-go. Free-range Egg, fresh hollandaise, mum’s spec roast ham, English muffin. Silky.
As above, but with smoked salmon for a little luxury.
Chollah, dipped in egg, griddled. Spiced with a little cinnamon and nutmeg, with fresh berries or maple candy bacon. Magnifique.
The Monte Cristo
A kind of Croque Monsieur but extra restorative. Ham, Gruyère all melted between glorious French Toast.
Er… hash browns.
We make ace all-day and on-the-go breakfasts inspired by our respect for the great British fry up with a little soul and celebration of brunch culture from across the pond. Some time ago we bonded over our love of our two favourite things – music and breakfast - and it was invariably on the mornings after the night before that we would struggle to find exactly what and how we wanted to eat. For example I might need eggs benedict, but wouldn’t fancy sitting anywhere too posh at one end, or settle for synthetic hollandaise and a from-a-caged-hen egg at the other. We also got especially annoyed at places that would stop serving breakfast way too early in the day. We’d both been working in restaurants for years, love to cook, eat, talk and drink and so decided to give it a go ourselves! 8 months of research and experimenting and we’re ready. It is truly the most important meal of the day, but it is sadly one of the most unloved. We want to change that!
We think there’s a real purity and integrity to the food people are putting out. Unfortunately these days restaurant menus are frequently decided by a calculator and spreadsheet rather than a frying pan and a spatula. You don’t get that on the street– people put out what they want to put out so they are, by their nature, specialists. On top of that, the atmosphere and vibe on both sides of the grill is just ace – loads of characters, bundles of energy and surprises a-plenty. It’s addictive. We wouldn’t dream of going back to the day jobs now!
A-ha! putting us on the spot here… The best food can be as much about time and place so depends on the mood but to avoid completely sitting on the fence: we love Horn OK’s flavours, think Jez The Bowler’s ball’s are always a sight for hungry eyes and think everything about Yum Bun is, quite simply, perfect.
