Bar Operations & Business Manager

KERB has made a name for itself as London’s street food specialist – scouting and supporting brilliant businesses and clustering them together at our markets and events. Now we are doing the same for our bars: seeking out specialist brewers, distillers and drinks companies, creating wonderful drinks menus that give Londoners both out on the KERB and inside at private and corporate events something better than ever to drink.

With this in mind we are looking for a bar enthusiast, a manager of people and operator extraordinaire to drive KERB Bars forward.  This is a job for a STRATEGIC grown up who can get stuff done, and will ultimately be confident in leading the charge, overseeing permanent bar sites, our bars at pop up events for the public, and bars for private events and corporate clients.

PRIVATE EVENTS: Mobilising bars for events

OPERATIONS: Procurement / storage / logistics

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: Spot / react / pro actively seek to broaden opportunities for KERB Bars including at our markets & with existing contacts

  • Designing the offer across a soft drinks bar in Camden, draught beer bars, cocktail bars etc balancing the need to keep the offer interesting, but keeping quality delivery realistic
  • Ensuring the activation and smooth running of the bars across all permanent sites and events
  • Forecasting and reporting & on income, spend and profit
  • Creating and maintaining processes across all aspects of running the bars, from the front line to back of house & office admin
  • Supporting the Private Events team in creating a bar product, marketing collateral and quoting on potential jobs
  • Ensuring that the look and feel of each event is in keeping with the KERB brand and working with Marketing and creative teams to deliver this
  • Identifying potential trends & meeting potential partners to collaborate with
  • Contributing to a business plan for KERB, scoping out new possibilities and recognising what is and what isn’t a positive move for the bar aspect of the business
  • Storage – managing a home (possibly numerous) for all our kit and stock

Overseeing (and sometimes doing):

  • Staffing: Recruitment, retention, training and rotation of staff, ensuring KERB has access to talent despite some staffing requirements being unpredictable
  • Health & Safety: Ensuring guidelines are adhered to
  • Stock control: Planning of deliveries and ordering
  • Finances: Suppliers & staff are being paid
  • Finances: Cash management plan and ensure it is adhered to
  • Logistics and transportation of bar equipment to public and private events

WOULD SUIT SOMEONE WITH:

  • 5 years+ experience of overseeing and hands on management of bar operations
  • Experience of activating bars at events, from inception to delivery
  • Experience of using (and ideally implementing) an EPOS system
  • Positive attitude to problem solving and seeking  a role that allows for a real sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Strategic mind with ability / experience of business planning and good business sense
  • Excellent hustle, excellent communication skills and confidence in negotiating
  • A management style that gets the most out of people, and fosters staff retention
  • Flexibility onsite and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in
  • Some grasp of the world of OUTDOOR events and markets
  • Form on sniffing out, negotiating and securing sponsorship deals an advantage
  • A passion for small businesses operating in food and drink (craft beer a big focus here)
  • A love of food, drink, music and people, goes without saying!
