FROM THE PAVEMENT TO THE KERB.

INTRODUCING THE FIRST KERB+ IMPACT PARTNERS…

At KERB, we’re more than ‘just’ street food. We’ve made it our mission, from the start, to prioritise positive social impact. This year, we moved all things members, markets, and the KERB ecosystem, into our new social enterprise, KERB+.  Now, we have a dedicated team working day-to-day to multiply our impact.

The KERB+ ecosystem consists of four stages:
Engaging: Working with a network of impact partners helps us to reach participants and to develop pathways into work and business.
Coaching: We offer a spread of live and digital coaching opportunities into business and work.
Incubating:
The InKERBator programme powers the development of early-stage food businesses into KERB members) and
Accelerating: Becoming a full-time KERB member, businesses take opportunities or for individuals job roles across a wide range of venues and KERB events)

STEP FORWARD, ONLY A PAVEMENT AWAY:

Only a Pavement Away is one of our 12 impact partners, providing vital support during our engaging and coaching stages of the KERB ecosystem.

Only A Pavement Away provides stability through employment for those in need and connects them with hospitality employers, while KERB+ helps to coach and support participants into roles across the KERB network.

An employed ex-offender is up to 87% less likely to re-offend. Last year 290,330 households in Great Britain were threatened with homelessness with the cost of living crisis looking to push this number even higher for this year and next. OAPA’s work is vital in changing lives and is needed now more than ever.

KERB+ ONLY A PAVEMENT AWAY

KERB+’s collaboration with Only a Pavement Away goes beyond providing employment opportunities in hospitality.

We’re proud to provide 1-2-1 coaching, hands-on taster days, ongoing support, and access to interviews for participants. Together, with OAPA, we empower individuals with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in the food industry, promoting self-sufficiency and personal growth. We also create a supportive and inclusive work environment for those who have faced various challenges in their lives, such as homelessness, military service or experience of the justice system.

KERB+ THE NATIONAL THEATRE

In 2021 we joined forces with The National Theatre to take treats from the street inside one of the city’s most iconic cultural institutions and have been here ever since.

A TASTE OF HOSPITALITY

Twice a year, we host ‘taster days’ at a KERB location. The team at OAPA invites participants from their network to come down and take part, with the invaluable opportunity to step into the kitchen with KERB members, and get hands-on experience within a food business.

The taster days provide an inside look at what a typical day’s work with KERB at the National Theatre might be like. The day starts with a backstage tour and an introduction to the departments at the National Theatre. Participants then head down to KERB at the Understudy, and get the chance to work with KERB traders like Bad Boy Pizza Society to make their award-winning pizza.

After the taster day, participants are given the opportunity to apply for a paid role from across KERB’s hospitality network. Interested participants work with our coaching team for four weeks to prepare, boosting their confidence and teaching interview techniques.

It’s not only an excellent experience for individuals who want to explore the hospitality industry, but also allows them to gain practical skills. For some, it even leads to employment and stability.

We’re proud to have coached 34 participants into paid roles at the National Theatre and Seven Dials Market over the past 12 months, four of whom were referred by Only A Pavement Away!

JOB OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND THE KERB

The positive impact doesn’t end there. With the ability to tap into KERB’s network of locations, from our flagship market Seven Dials Market, to KERB at the National Theatre and beyond, alongside access to Only A Pavement Away’s job board, we’re able to connect brilliant talent with brilliant live roles.
